| When I first got
"online" one of my favorite things
about the internet was e-mail. (It still is.) I quickly made e-mail
contact with anybody I could find an
"address" on and joined several mailing
lists. I used search engines to locate folks'
e-mail addresses and sent out tons of prattle
about almost everything.
I soon
discovered that folks who never answered my
letters would snap off an e-mail reply to my
electronic correspondence as soon as they
received it. I was elated!
I also noticed
that e-mailers used plenty of symbols and
acronyms, mostly obvious. But one day, when I
tried to do the same, I was red-faced to discover
I didn't know as much as I thought I did!

Upon learning of a dear friend's
serious illness, I sent my sincerest condolences,
ending my comments with "LOL." I thought it must mean
Lots Of Love!
But LOL means
Laugh Out Loud!

Forget the haughty museums on
our Poetry
& Art page, go have
some real fun at a museum for the culturally
disabled: The Museum of Dirt
(Sadly, the site is now gone. It really was fun and
educational.)
