Lessons on Money & Wealth & Time
Funny? by Ron
Cusano of Shiloh Ministries
Funny how $10 looks so
big when we take it to church,
but so small when we take it to the store.
Funny how long 60 minutes are when serving God,
but how short when fishing, playing golf or basketball.
Funny how laborious it is to read a chapter in the Bible,
but how easy it is to read 200 to 300 pages of a best
selling novel.
Funny how we believe what a person or newspaper says,
but question what the Bible says.
Funny how we can't think of anything to say when we pray,
but don't have difficulty thinking of things to gossip
about to a friend.
Funny how we need 2 or 3 weeks to fit a church event into
our schedule,
but have no problem adjusting for a social event at the
last minute.
Funny how we get thrilled when a football game goes into
extra time,
but complain when a sermon is longer than the regular
time.
Funny how people scramble to get a front row seat at any
game,
but scramble to get a back row seat at church services.
Funny how difficult it is to share the gospel with
others,
but how simple it is to talk about anything else.
Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven,
provided they don't have to believe, think, say or do
anything.
Funny, isn't it?
Or is it funny at all
True Wealth Submitted
by Floyd Bills
One day
a father and his rich family took his son to a trip to
the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor
people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm
of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip
the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"Very
good Dad!"
"Did
you see how poor people can be?" the father asked.
"Yeah!"
"And
what did you learn?"
The son
answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and
they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle
of the garden, they have a creek that has no end. We have
imported lamps in the garden, they have the stars. Our
patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole
horizon."
When the
little boy was finishing, his father was speechless. His
son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we
are!"
Isn't it
true that it all depends on the way you look at things?
If you have salvation, love, friends, family, health,
good humor and a positive attitude towards life -- you've
got everything! You can't buy any of these things, but
still you can have all the material possessions you can
imagine, provisions for the future, etc., but if you are
poor of spirit, you have nothing!
Is Time Really Money? Submitted
by Viola Gilbert
A man came home from
work late again, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year
old son waiting for him at the door. "Daddy, may I
ask you a question?" "Yeah, sure, what is
it?" replied the man. "Daddy, how much money do
you make an hour?" "That's none of your
business. What makes you ask such a thing?" the man
said angrily.
"I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do
you make an hour?" pleaded the little boy. "If
you must know, I make $20.00 an hour."
"Oh," the little boy replied, head bowed.
Looking up, he said, "Daddy, May I borrow $10.00
please?"
The father was furious. "If the only reason you
wanted to know how much money I make is just so you can
borrow some to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense,
then you march yourself straight to your room. You don't
need any more toys! Go play with the ones you already
have. I work long, hard hours everyday and don't have
time for this."
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the
door. The man sat down and started to get even madder
about the little boy's questioning. How dare he ask such
questions only to get some money.
After an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started
to think he may have been a little hard on his son. Maybe
there was something he really needed to buy with that
$10.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often.
The man went to the door of the little boy's room and
opened the door. His son was laying on the bed. "Are
you asleep son?" he asked.
"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.
"I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you
earlier," said the man. "It's been a long day
and I took my aggravation out on you. Here's that $10.00
you asked for."
The little boy sat straight up, beaming. "OH, thank
you daddy" he yelled. Then, reaching under his
pillow, he pulled out some more crumpled up bills. The
man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to
get angry again.
The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked
up at the man. "Why did you want more money if you
already had some?" the father grumbled.
"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,"
the little boy replied. "Daddy, I have $20.00 now.
Can I buy an hour of your time?"
Share the story with someone you like...but even better,
share $20.00 worth of time with someone you love. Just a
short reminder to all of us working so hard for our
living.
However, let us not let time slip through our fingers
without having spent some quality time with those who
really matter to us.

Inspiring Music
At Church
A minister was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was
going to ask the congregation to come up with more money
than they were expecting for repairs to the church
building.
Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular
organist was sick and a substitute had been brought in at
the last minute. The substitute wanted to know what to
play.
"Here's a copy of the service," he said
impatiently. "But you'll have to think of something
to play after I make the announcement about the
finances."
During the service, the minister paused and said,
"Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty;
the roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected, and
we need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or
more, please stand up."
At that moment, the substitute organist played, "The
Star Spangled Banner."

What does it take to get
us to realize that all we "own" is really the
Lord's? The above was intended as a joke, but it's not so
funny after all, is it? How much of your time and money
are spent for your Savior?
